Environmental Technology was formed in 1989 as an Air
Pollution Control company specializing in fabric filter
based systems, especially for applications on combustion
sources. BET was the direct descendent of Standard Havens,
Inc. - The pioneer and dominant market force for the
application of pulse jet baghouses to industrial
boilers and other hot gas sources
in the 1970's and 80's. This experience proved to be
a perfect background for today's APC market where gas
cooling, reagent injection systems, corrosion control,
etc. are a part of virtually every combustion
pollution control application.
BET's initial focus
was on medical
waste incinerator air pollution control applications.
These incinerators received considerable
publicity in the late '80's and were the target of
new, stringent emission standards for a dozen or more
individual pollutants.
The small incinerators burned widely varying
fuels, experienced frequent start-stop operation, and
often had marginal operations and minimal management
support. This
difficult market proved to be an excellent fit for
BET's strong system design skills and their partnering
philosophy, and BET rapidly established themselves as
the market leader.
While
incinerators were the primary charter at that time,
BET also provided a number of unique, special
application systems that took advantage of their
product and design experience. These systems
continued to meet the company's mission statement of
serving "fabric filter based air pollution
control systems for combustion applications".
In
recent years EPA legislation created significant
markets for the BET style systems on two target
markets: industrial
boilers and brick kilns.
BET's background, including the Standard Havens
experience, coupled with their proven system designs
for temperature control, acid gas scrubbing, toxic
material removal and particulate control allowed BET
to become a market leader in these areas also.

BET is an independent
OEM supplier. All of the primary products (baghouse,
evaporative cooler, semi-dry and dry scrubbers, etc.)
are of their own design. System and component design
is done "in house", supported in certain
disciplines and in overload conditions when necessary
by long term outside associates. Fabrication of the
products is sub-contracted to established, experienced
vendors. All project management, quality control and
field services are provided by BET's in-house engineering.
The company
has always been privately owned.
Richard Bundy founded the company and was
president for more than 16 years.
During the 2005 to 2007 period, the company
went through a planned and orderly transition as Dick
retired from the day-to-day operations of the company.
Wes McKenzie, who had been a Vice President
since joining the company in 1991, assumed the role of
President in 2006.
In 2007 he completed the purchase of BET.
Dick has a continuing involvement, consulting
when needed and managing selected special projects.
